Toshiba reinforces storage device business by re-forming development and sales
TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it will realign its storage products businesses in a unified organization by merging its Semiconductor Company and Storage Products Company in a new in-house company, Semiconductor & Storage Products Company, on July 1. The current Semiconductor Company business range includes NAND flash memories and the solid state drives (SSD) for consumer applications that they make possible, while the Storage Products Company covers hard disk drives (HDDs) and SSDs for enterprise applications. This strategic reorganization will place three key storage device business lines—HDD, SSD and other solid state memories, including memory cards, and NAND flash memories—in a more closely focused operating structure that will facilitate more efficient product development and sales. More specifically, the reorganization will reinforce strategic planning by unifying customer support, support increased product differentiation by merging product development teams of complementary products such as enterprise and consumer SSDs, and also enhance sales operations. CPT Entered into a Sale & Purchase Agreement
Chunghwa Picture Tubes (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (CPTM) would enter into a Sale & Purchase agreement with Dijaya Corporation Berhad (KLSE: 5401; DIJACOR) and receive a total cash consideration of RM391 million (or the equivalent of NT$3,572 million preliminarily) by selling the real properties today (2011/6/8). This property transaction will be completed by the end of the 4th quarter of 2011. Moreover, Chunghwa Picture Tube, Ltd. (2475; abbreviated as “CPT”) would close CRT-manufacturing plant in Malaysia as well as dispose of production plant, real property, long-term investment, and all relevant assets by the end of fiscal year 2011. Looking back at 40 years of CPT, it not only overcame CRT initial start-up difficulties but also reached a peak of success. Due to the trend of industrial upgrading and technology improvement, CPT ended the CRT business. GMI Technology Announces 1st Quarter Financial Results
GMI Technology Inc. (Public, TPE: 3312) today announced financial results for the 1st quarter of fiscal year 2011. For the three month period ending March 31, 2011 net revenue was US$ 98.8 million, an increase of 7.3% versus the same quarter in 2010. Western Digital To Acquire Hitachi Global Storage Technologies
IRVINE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif. – Mar. 7, 2011 – Western Digital (NYSE: WDC) and Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT / TSE:6501) announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement whereby WD will acquire Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., in a cash and stock transaction valued at approximately $4.3 billion.
